Engineerio
Year:
2019
Theme:
Marvel
Biography:
J. Jonah Jameson, portrayed by J.K. Simmons in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy and later in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is the blustery and outspoken publisher and editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle newspaper. His defining characteristic is his relentless campaign against Spider-Man, whom he deems a menace and a public danger.
In the original Spider-Man trilogy, Jameson provides comic relief with his fast-talking and demanding personality. He pressures his employees, including Peter Parker, to obtain photos discrediting Spider-Man. Despite Spider-Man's heroic acts, Jameson remains steadfast in his negative portrayal.
Reintroduced in the MCU in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Jameson appears via a video broadcast, revealing Spider-Man's identity and further fueling public distrust. This version maintains Jameson's core antagonism toward Spider-Man, adapting it to the modern context of internet news and social media. He continues his anti-Spider-Man crusade in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Although the Raimi version is based heavily on the comics, his first appearance on the screen occurred in Spider-Man: The Animated Series in 1967.
